Melissa Djukic was chosen as the receiver of the scholarship for this 2007.

Melissa has completed a TAFE apprentiship course at Ultimo TAFE and works for a medium size printing company called Awesome Screen Prints. Her immediate boss is Paul Smith who also won the scholarship some years back.

Melissa would like to go to FESPA to learn as much as she can about the production side of print and to look at what are the advances are being made in equipment, innovative work practices and products that are new to the industry.

Although the company she works for is a general  print shop her flair is towards textile yardage printing. Her aim is to stay within thee screen printing industry and some time down the track to run her own business but not withstanding the contacts and networking she has formed in her present position.

Melissa is hands on and can even hand cut stencils.

Melissa has now to put a budget together for the coming trip to Berlin and specific plant tours.

About the Glen Crerar
sgiaa clen crerar
Glen Crerar devoted over 42 years of his working life to the Graphic Arts Industry, spending all of this time in the screenprinting field. His career commenced at Wilmot Advertising, he then moved on to Williams Industries before joining Vogue Displays (N.S.W.) Ltd 2 years later.

Glen joined Vogue Displays as Manager, however in those days it meant you did the artwork, made the film or hand cut stencil, put it up on a screen, printed the job and probably delivered it as well.

He was eventually promoted to General Manager of the screenprinting division of Vogue Displays and in 1974 purchased the company along with Vogue Displays Sales Executive, Barry Toovey.

Barry, who was Glen€s partner for 16 years, said of Glen, €We became friends from my very first day at Vogue Displays. Glen, who was possessed of a fine sense of humour as well as a very keen business mind, always followed the €golden rule€ throughout his life.

There were no closed doors at our factory, Glen was always available to discuss problems whether they were to do with the job in hand or to help with some personal advise to our employees. Glen was the most gracious man I have ever known, he will be sorely missed.€

Glen held many executive positions during his 15 years with the Screen Printing Association of Australia Incorporated. These included: State President and Federal Public Relations Officer and he was the current Federal President due to complete his term in 1991. His landmark contribution was to guide the Association through incorporation, which meant rewriting of the Constitution. At the time of his passing, Glen was the Chairperson of the Committee of Review of the syllabus of the Graphic Arts School. This was just a continuation of his commitment to training young people for the screen-printing industry. Glen also represented Australia on the Board of Directors of the Screen Printing Association International based in Virginia USA, and also at the Federation of European Screen Printing Association.

On a personal level.....
Glen started out as Superintendent of a Sunday School and ended up an Elder of the Presbyterian Church of Australia. He was a lay preacher, and on many occasions wrote the sermon and led the congregation at his local church. In addition Glen was the secretary of the Warringah Camp of the Gideons Society.

In his younger days Glen played Cricket, Rugby Union, Rugby League and was involved in the Scouting movement, and had carried his involvement into his non-playing days.

To relax he was a supporter of Manly Rugby Union Club and this allowed him to watch his sons play in all grades of the first division competition. He was one of the supporters of the North Sydney Rugby League team and club, and had been for many years. In Glen€s own way he had to repay the pleasure he got from sport so he was a Life Member, Patron and Past President of the Warringaroos Junior Rugby Club.

Glen and his wife and lifetime companion, Irene, were constantly involved in Industry and Community activities and on numerous occasions travelled interstate and overseas, at all times being great ambassadors to our Industry and Australia.

Their involvement in these numerous activities did not preclude them from enjoying maximum time with their children and grandchildren.
Glen was always conscious of the fact that a successful happy life should involve a multitude of activities, but never lost sight of the fact that his family was his first priority.
